Merry Christmas

Christmas supper at Savia's aunt's house. Savia and her investment broker uncle are discussing the global economic situation.

Savia's uncle: Blah blah blah, economic crisis, blah blah blah, credit/debt/housing blah blah blah
Savia: Blah blah blah, some insightful question, blah blah blah, political corruption, blah blah blah
Savia's somewhat demented grandmother: I know! It's those Filipinos coming in and stealing all of our jobs!
Everyone at the table: Incredulous looks, laughter.

It just wouldn't be Christmas without some random racist comment (aimed at a group that isn't even visible in our community) from a crazy old person at the supper table.

I hope your holiday was just as interesting.

Ooh - my grandma has an irrational dislike of Filipinos, too! Merry Christmas!

That's too funny. I used to have a crabby old great-uncle who made inappropriate racist jokes all the time. How a Jew felt comfortable being racist about other groups is beyond me. Anyway, he's long gone now.
